Canada will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, organisers have announced.
It becomes the first new country to join since Australia in 2015, after a turbulent year when long‑standing participants such as Ireland and Spain pulled out over Israel’s participation.
The path to competition was cleared last week when CBC/Radio‑Canada became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which stages the annual contest. Canada’s entry will debut in next year’s semi‑finals held in Bulgaria.
Canadian music history at Eurovision is strong – Quebec‑born Céline Dion represented France in 1988 and won the contest with "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.", followed by other Canadian artists like Natasha St‑Pier and La Zarra who have also represented France in 2001 and 2023 respectively.
For 2027, CBC/Radio‑Canada will disclose how the Canadian representative will be chosen later this year.
While some countries that boycotted the 2026 contest may return this year, the decision remains uncertain.
The 2026 Eurovision winner, Bulgarian pop star Dara with "Bangarang!", lifted the trophy, meaning the 2027 contest will be hosted in Sofia.
