The U.S. military has executed a substantial deployment in the Caribbean Sea, particularly near the coast of Venezuela, since summer. This initiative aligns with the administration's campaign against narcoterrorism. Currently, the Navy has stationed eight warships, including three destroyers, three amphibious assault vessels, and a cruiser. Notably, the amphibious assault ships are equipped with advanced Marine assets, including Osprey tilt rotor aircraft and Harrier jets.
Moreover, each destroyer and cruiser is typically equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, enabling long-distance strike capabilities. Additionally, the USS Newport News submarine is involved in regional operations, enhancing the military’s deterrent capability.
On the aviation front, advanced U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II jets have arrived in Puerto Rico, supported by MQ-9 Reaper drones capable of extensive surveillance and strike missions. The military has also deployed maritime patrol aircraft and an AC-130J Ghostrider, further emphasizing its operational readiness.
During these operations, over 6,000 sailors and Marines have been confirmed active in the region. Although specific details on the total number of aircraft and drones have not been released, the enhanced military presence speaks to the U.S. commitment to countering threats in this strategically significant area.
