Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) announced that the forthcoming contest, running from 12 to 15 May, will be staged in the coastal city of Burgas.
The decision follows Bulgarian singer Dara’s victory in Vienna last month – a moment that brought Bulgaria its first Eurovision win with the high‑octane anthem "Bangaranga".
"We are delighted to be the next destination," said EBU director Martin Green. "Burgas will bring something truly special to the competition," he added.
Truly Bulgarian
"Burgas is a vibrant, welcoming city that combines strong musical roots with modern infrastructure," Green said. "We aim to create a celebration that feels genuinely Bulgarian, yet unmistakably Eurovision."
Burgas – the country’s second‑largest city – was chosen over Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv after a competitive bid process.
Rule change
Earlier this week, the contest’s governing body approved a rule that bars any winner involved in an armed conflict from hosting the next edition. The move, interpreted as a response to Israel’s military actions, also raises implications for Ukraine.
After Ukraine won in 2023 under challenging circumstances, the decision to host was postponed due to security concerns, and Liverpool stepped in as the host for that year.
The new rule aims to safeguard the contest’s safety and stability as a unified European cultural event. It signals a shift in how geopolitical tensions will be managed within the Eurovision framework.
