The latest Russian strikes hit both residential and non‑residential buildings in the Kyiv region, at least four civilians died in the eastern city of Kharkiv, an elderly woman was killed in Kyiv, and there were additional fatalities in Zaporizhzhia and Sumy.
Russia’s offensive – The attack involved a wave of ballistic missiles and drones, reportedly killing at least eight people and injuring dozens. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the raid on Kyiv as “one of the most massive ballistic attacks” since the full‑scale invasion began in 2022.
Late on Sunday, Ukrainian navy officials said a five‑person crew perished when a Turkish‑owned grain cargo ship was hit by Russian missiles in the Black Sea; Russia has not commented.
In response, Ukraine said it had struck three Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea and three oil depots in the southern Stavropol region, citing the targets as financing the aggression. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium also confirmed its terminal had been struck.
Ukrainian air defences reportedly shot down 18 of 41 missiles and intercepted 108 drones over Kyiv overnight. Kharkiv’s regional head reported a postal terminal hit, killing four men.
Zelensky posted on Telegram that in the past week Russia used about 1,450 strike drones, over 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles of various types. He also noted Ukrainian units had hit three oil depots in Stavropol and a fuel‑sector facility in the same region.
The latest strikes on Kyiv involved Iskander and hypersonic Zircon missiles and 125 drones, according to Ukrainian air force reports. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said both residential and commercial buildings were damaged, including a supermarket and a dormitory.
Firefighters battled blazes at two warehouses; Ukraine’s emergency ministry reported a logistics hub in Bucha district near Kyiv had been hit, with two people injured. The overnight strikes followed Ukraine’s July 14 retaliation against warehouses belonging to Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries.
Wildberries’ warehouses in Tambov and Elektrostal suffered casualties: seven deaths and 25 injuries in Tambov, and one death and 37 injuries in Elektrostal.
Zelensky said Ukraine’s operations were a response to Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure and communities, noting about 43 % of Russia’s oil refining capacity had been disabled in recent drone attacks.
Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian cities, prompting Kyiv to seek more ballistic missile interceptors from European allies. Zelensky stressed the urgent need for daily protection against ballistic attacks.
