Soldier kills four in Russian‑occupied Crimea in gun rampage
In the Crimea, which has been under Russian control since 2014, a soldier opened fire on his own unit, killing one comrade and wounding another before turning to civilians in the village of Khmelnytske.
The attack resulted in the deaths of a 71‑year‑old man, a 59‑year‑old man and a 64‑year‑old woman, with three other people injured.
Moscow‑installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said the soldier was arrested and that authorities are investigating the motive, while the identity and branch of the armed forces remain undisclosed.
Officials have urged the public to rely only on official information and warned against spreading unverified rumours about the shooting.
Russia maintains a large military presence in Crimea, and the area remains a flashpoint of the Ukraine‑Russia conflict, with continued drone and missile strikes by Ukrainian forces against Russian positions.
