Police were called by two men who discovered a suitcase on the side of a road near Oallen, a small village located about 230 kilometres south‑west of Sydney.
At first, authorities treated the find as a potential murder case and announced a criminal investigation. However, forensic tests later proved the suitcase did not contain a human body at all.
The contents were a lifelike doll that was dressed, had hair, and even featured a nose piercing. It also bore markings that could be mistaken for bruises and grazes.
Senior Superintendent Linda Bradbury explained that the doll’s appearance was realistic enough to initially be misidentified as body remains. Forensic teams followed all procedures to confirm the nature of the find.
Police have now closed the investigation, confirming that the suitcase was a harmless prop rather than evidence of foul play.
