Tragic Multi-Vehicle Collision Claims Over 60 Lives in Uganda
In a tragic incident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Uganda, 63 people lost their lives when several vehicles collided early on Wednesday. According to the Uganda Police Force, the crash occurred around 00:15 local time (21:15 GMT) when two buses travelling in opposite directions met head-on as they attempted to overtake a lorry and a car.
The collision triggered a series of crashes, leading to severe injuries among passengers of the vehicles involved. One of the buses swerved to avoid an impending crash, only to cause a head-on and side collision, which set off a catastrophic chain reaction with other vehicles losing control and overturning.
Emergency responders have conveyed those injured to a hospital in Kiryandongo, with police urging motorists to exercise caution against dangerous overtaking maneuvers, which have been recognized as a leading cause of road accidents in the country.
