“This marks a grim chapter in the history of the Drents Museum and the National History Museum of Romania,” stated Harry Tupan, the museum’s director. The stolen golden helmet, dating back to the fifth century B.C., is part of Romania's cultural heritage and features exquisite design elements, depicting intricate historical scenes.

The coveted helmet and other artifacts were part of a special exhibition and had been on display since July 2024. Both Romanian authorities and museum officials regard the stolen items as invaluable cultural treasures, emphasizing their immeasurable worth to Romania’s identity.

Investigations by the Dutch police are ongoing, including probing a potential link between the museum break-in and a car fire nearby, with indications that the thieves may have fled the scene using a vehicle unrelated to the theft. This incident follows a similar art heist in Amsterdam, underscoring a troubling trend in art crime in the region.
