Federal agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Saturday, marking the second fatality during the Trump administration's immigration enforcement in the city this month.
The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a US citizen and respected nurse. Footage of the incident shows a conflict between Pretti and Border Patrol agents prior to the shooting, with reports indicating that the agents acted in self-defense, claiming Pretti had a handgun.
Eyewitness accounts and family testimonies, however, suggest otherwise. Pretti’s parents condemned the official narrative, asserting that he had a phone in his possession and was not holding a weapon during the confrontation. They called for transparency and the truth regarding their son's death.
The incident unfolded near Nicollet Avenue and 26th Street around 9:05 AM local time, as Border Patrol agents conducted what they described as a targeted immigration operation.
Witnesses reported seeing Pretti filming the agents with his phone just before violence erupted. Conflicting reports regarding his alleged firearm have sparked outrage, with local officials and residents rallying against federal presence and actions in Minneapolis.
Local leaders have intensified calls for federal agents to vacate the area following this tragedy, emphasizing the need for community safety and accountability.
